About meWeb Production: I'm currently working as a Web producer for JSOnline, the Web site of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. My primary areas of responsibility are news, politics and social media. I'm also part of a task force that focuses on ways to transform the company from a print outlet to a multimedia information provider. Prior to that, I worked for two years at Boston.com, where I focused on breaking news, updating our production "user guide" and maintaining a number of our special sections. As befitting my Midwest upbringing, I'm relentlessly practical in my production work. I like new technology, but only to the extent that it has real-world uses for potential audiences. Writing: My writing has appeared in The Boston Globe, Boston.com, Boston Business Journal, Media Ethics magazine, the (Quincy, Mass.) Patriot Ledger, the Jamaica Plain (Mass.) Gazette and Filmfodder.com. I've covered government, business, development, transportation and community events. Personal: Prior to pursuing a career in journalism, I drifted through years of office jobs, food service and working with at-risk youth - which isn't to say I wasn't interested in communication. I started parody newspapers in both high school and college. I directed a summer youth theater. I worked in college radio and TV. I blogged. All of which helped bring me to where I am today: hunched over a computer for eight to ten hours a day, trying desperately to stave off carpal tunnel syndrome.
